Report on the archival programmes of Cultural Heritage Days

2023.01.19.
Cultural Heritage Days are a series of European Heritage Days in Hungary, which are now held in fifty countries every year. This year, our archives joined the national events series of Cultural Heritage Days.

On Saturday, 17th September 2022, we prepared for Cultural Heritage Days with an interesting temporary exhibition and special tours of our buildings. Many people came to our walks at 9, 10, 11 and 12 am. The tours started with the presentation of our temporary exhibition "The Worlds of Life in "Existing Socialism" and Balaton Settlement Pictures 1984-1985", which can be seen in the Archives' ceremonial hall. The exhibition was presented by assistant archivists Edina Grüll and Kornélia Illés, who also talked to visitors about the background of the exhibition, the choice of the theme and the creation of the exhibit.

After the professional presentation of the exhibition, our guests were guided in small groups by Director István Boross and senior arcivists Ágnes Tóth and Vince Balázs Nagy, and were introduced to the building (the former Kinizsi Pál Royal Hungarian Army Troop Sub-officer Training School), its military history and the treasures of the archives. During the tour of the building, visitors could see the archives' ceremonial hall, the archives cabinet from 1782, the archives' modern classroom, the 19th century authentication cabinet, our building history exhibition on the past of the Jutasi Sub-officer Training School, the research service, the filing rooms, the storerooms and even the archives cabinet of the city of Veszprém from the first half of the 19th century in the director's office. Valuable and interesting archival sources and documents were displayed and peresented in the various spaces, rooms and storerooms.

We hope that everyone who visited us on this day had a positive experience and learned something interesting about the archives.
