Szabó Ervin Medal

It was founded in 1972, in order to reward outstanding achievements of librarians and archivists.

Pauler Gyula Prize

According to Act 12/1991 (VIII. 6.) of the Ministry of Culture and Public Education – amended by Act 3/1992 (III. 6.) of the Ministry of Culture and Public Education, and Act 3/1999 (II. 24.) of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage (3_1999_NKOM.pdf) – the prize shall be bestowed upon archivists who performed exemplary achievements for a longer time, and through their activities and initiatives they advanced the improvement of their professional fields. The prize – 200 000 Ft per head – can be given to four people on 20 August. The donated person receives a grant and a round, bronze medal which is 80 mm in diameter and 8 mm thick. The medal was created by the sculptor Enikő Szöllőssy; its convex obverse limns Gyula Pauler’s portrait and the inscription Gyula Pauler Prize is presented as well. It was bestowed on 20 August 1992 for the first time.

Széchényi Ferenc Prize

According to Act 3/1999 (II. 24.) of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage (3_1999_NKOM.pdf)the prize shall be bestowed upon professionals (working for libraries, archives, museums) who performed high-level theoretical or practical activities, worked out and applied new methods, and served their professions. The prize – 200 000 Ft per head – may be bestowed upon six people on 20 August. The donated person receives a grant and a round, bronze medal which is 70 mm in diameter and 5 mm thick. The medal was created by the sculptor Róbert Csíkszentmihályi. Its obverse limns Ferenc Széchényi’s portrait and the legend "Ferenc Széchényi Prize" is indicated as well. Another legend is also presented on its reverse: "For serving public collection".

Pro Archivo Regni Prize

It was founded by the National Archives of Hungary in 1995. Every year the prize is donated to a full-time employee assigned for an indefinite period, provided that he/she has been working for the National Archives of Hungary on particularly high-level for at least 15 years. The director general of the Archives decides about the donation on the basis of recommendations of deputy directors general, the head of the Finance Office and heads of departments. The bestowed person receives a grant, a memorial certificate and the prize.

For Archives Prize

It was founded by the Association of Hungarian Archivists in 1991, in order to reward those non-research archival workers (clerical assistants, financial administrators, technicians) who continuously serve archivism and performed achievements deserving credit. Leaders of institutions, every member of the Society and archival collectives may make recommendations on bestowing.

Széchenyi Prize

 

According to Act XII of 1990 (12_1990.pdf), amended by Act XI of 2000, the prize shall be bestowed upon professionals from the fields of science, technology, researches, technical improvement, culture, art, medication and pedagogy, who perform high-level, exemplary achievements acknowledged in international relations as well. The bestowed person receives a grant, prize, a badge and a statue. The statue is a 89 mm tall, bronze, gilded small sculpture presenting István Széchenyi’s figure. The pedestal is 255 mm tall, 40 mm in diameter; it is a cylinder made of copper with a gilded upper part and a silver-plated case. On the basis of the suggestion of a special committee, the Government makes a proposal to the president. Usually on 15 March, the president gives the prize to the donated persons with all solemnity.

The Order of the Hungarian Republic, Medium Cross, Civil Section

According to Act XXXI of 1991 (31_1991.pdf), amended by Act XI of 2000, the Cross shall be given to Hungarian and foreign citizens furthering and advancing the interests of the independent and democratic Hungary in an exemplary way. The Prize involves two separate sections: a Civil Section and a Soldier’s Section. With the sanction of the Government, the prime minister and the competent ministers make recommendations on bestowing. The President of the Hungarian Republic hands over the Cross to the donated person.
